The lecture (= Cours magistral) is taught in French.
We will try to describe the verb phrase and justify the different choices that can be made according to the utterer’s intention and message. We will mainly concentrate on tenses, aspects, modal auxiliaries and passive forms.
The aim of this class is both to improve students’ expression and to guide them towards a linguistic study of the English language.
The TD class is mostly taught in French.
We will use the theory that we learnt in the lecture course, and will mainly work on grammatical translation from French to English. We will try to assess the different contextual parameters in French and translate them into English. Part of our task will be to explain and justify the choices we make when translating the verb phrase.
